Malaysian Trumpet Snails (Melanoides tuberculata) are one of the most beneficial freshwater aquarium snails for maintaining a healthy and balanced substrate. Known for their cone-shaped shells and burrowing behaviour, these snails help naturally aerate aquarium substrate, reduce waste build-up, and assist in breaking down leftover food before it pollutes the water.
Unlike many other snail species, Malaysian Trumpet Snails spend much of their time buried beneath the substrate, helping prevent anaerobic pockets and compacted gravel or sand. This makes them highly popular in planted aquariums, shrimp tanks, community aquariums, and natural ecosystem-style setups.
These hardy freshwater snails are peaceful, shrimp-safe, and excellent for both beginner and experienced aquarists. They thrive in a wide range of water parameters and help contribute to a cleaner aquarium environment with minimal maintenance.
