Available in 5 Sizes: PICO | NANO | SMALL | MEDIUM | LARGE
The Serenity Bio Sponge Filter range is designed to deliver powerful, stable and shrimp-safe biological filtration for freshwater aquariums of all sizes. Whether you are setting up a shrimp tank, breeding system, nano aquarium, betta tank or a larger community aquarium, these air-driven sponge filters provide gentle flow, excellent oxygenation and reliable biological support.
Sponge filters are one of the most trusted filtration methods in the aquarium hobby — especially for shrimp keepers and breeders — because they are simple, safe and highly effective at supporting the nitrogen cycle.
Each sponge is made from high-density foam that provides a large surface area for beneficial bacteria to colonise. These bacteria break down ammonia and nitrite, helping stabilise your aquarium’s nitrogen cycle and maintain safe water parameters.
No exposed intake. No risk of baby shrimp or fry being sucked in. This makes Serenity Sponge Filters ideal for:
Shrimp tanks (Neocaridina & Caridina)
Breeding setups
Fry grow-out tanks
Betta aquariums
Quarantine tanks
Nano planted aquariums
Air-driven filtration creates a soft upward current, improving oxygen exchange without creating strong water movement that stresses shrimp or delicate fish.
Simply rinse the sponge in removed tank water during water changes. No cartridges. No complicated parts. Long-lasting and cost-effective.
Perfect for very small nano aquariums, shrimp cubes and breeding boxes. Compact but efficient, ideal for low bioload systems.
Great for nano shrimp tanks and betta aquariums. Provides stable biological support without overpowering delicate livestock.
Suitable for small community tanks and established shrimp colonies. Increased sponge volume allows stronger bacterial colonisation.
Designed for mid-sized aquariums and breeding systems with moderate bioload.
Best suited for larger aquariums, grow-out tanks, breeding racks or tanks requiring higher biological capacity.
When connected to an air pump, air travels up the lift tube, pulling aquarium water through the sponge. As water passes through:
Debris is trapped mechanically.
Beneficial bacteria break down ammonia and nitrite.
Clean, oxygenated water is released back into the tank.
This supports a stable and healthy aquarium ecosystem — particularly important for shrimp and fry.
Serenity Bio Sponge Filters require an air pump and airline tubing to operate.
For optimal performance, pair your sponge filter with one of our recommended air pumps:
• Dymax Airpump AP300 – Ideal for PICO & NANO setups

To connect your air pump to the sponge filter, you’ll also need airline tubing:
• Aquarium Airline Hose (Available in 1m, 5m, 20m & 200m)
