  • Algae wafers
  • Blanched zucchini
  • Spinach
  • Indian Almond Leaves
  • Fish foods
  • Frozen foods occasionally

Avoid overfeeding.

Tank Mates

Suitable with:

✅ Other peaceful shrimp

Avoid:

❌ Large Cichlids

❌ Oscars

❌ Arowanas

❌ Puffers

❌ Large aggressive fish

Breeding

True Amano Shrimp have a unique breeding cycle.

Females carry hundreds of tiny eggs beneath their abdomen. After hatching, the larvae require brackish water to successfully develop before eventually returning to freshwater as juveniles.

Because of this specialised life cycle, breeding Amano Shrimp is considerably more challenging than breeding Cherry Shrimp.

Acclimation

Due to their sensitivity to sudden water changes, Amano Shrimp should always be drip acclimated.

We recommend:

  • Float the bag for 15–20 minutes to equalise temperature.
  • Slowly drip aquarium water into the container over 60–90 minutes.
  • Gently net the shrimp into the aquarium.
  • Do not add shipping water into your tank.

Care Tips

  • Keep ammonia and nitrite at 0 ppm.
  • Perform regular water changes.
  • Avoid copper-based medications.
  • Ensure plenty of hiding places, especially after moulting.
  • Stable water parameters are more important than chasing perfect numbers.

Fish Hut Aqua Recommendation

True Amano Shrimp are one of the best investments you can make for a planted aquarium. Their unmatched algae-eating ability, peaceful temperament, and hardy nature make them an essential member of almost any freshwater cleanup crew.

Whether you’re battling algae or simply want one of the hardest-working shrimp in the hobby, Caridina multidentata is an excellent choice.
